Week of 2/17-2/21

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

This week in Fifth Grade

♥ Reading: We will continue our novel The Hobbit. We ended on Chapter 5 last week and completed the corresponding activities – chapter review/comprehension questions, journal writing, novel packet assignments, etcetera.

I will also begin a short story unit with students this week.

♥ Spelling: New words will be assigned Monday and our test will be Friday after Mass. Our unit this week will focus on contractions.

♥ Math: Students will continue working with Mr. Warn. His email is awarn@saintpatricks.school  if you have any questions on the curriculum.

♥ Social Studies: We will finish our unit on the Revolutionary War. We will end with learning about the Battle of Rhode Island {I ask that students bring their phones to school in order to complete this. If they do not have one, they may work with a partner}, the Battle of Charleston and Cowpens, Yorktown, and the signing of the Treaty of Paris. We will also learn about the traitor Benedict Arnold, George Washington’s entrance into presidency, and women’s role during the war.

♥ Science: Weather Instrument projects are due Tuesday. Students were provided with project sheets last Thursday that detailed the necessary materials and what is expected to be turned in to me. We will be studying and researching weather patterns in the US, along with natural disasters that occur from them.

Additional Announcements:

  • Friday, February 21st Fifth Grade will be reading at Mass.
  • I will not be here on Monday, February 17th as I will be coming back from my brother’s military deployment ceremony in Kansas.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are TUESDAY the 18th from 3 – 5 PM. Please call Mrs. Frazier to schedule an appointment to meet with me! Remember, each session is in 15 minute increments. We will be discussing your child’s grade, administering progress reports, and analyzing NWEA & STAR test scores.
  • I am having trouble getting students to turn in work. If your child has a cluttered binder, folder, or backpack, please help them de-clutter. This is becoming a huge problem across the board with the upper grade teachers.
  • Intent to Return forms were sent home with your child. Please sign and send this in as soon as possible.
  • Our class is in need of more hand sanitizer, Clorox Wipes, and paper towels. Any donations are much appreciated!
  • Please refer to the school Facebook page for announcements/schedule changes from Dr. Scheu. Especially during the winter months for updates on two hour delays and closings.
  • 14 AR points are required for the third quarter.
  • Remember to send a healthy snack with your child and a water bottle each day.

Please let me know if you have any questions. As always, email or message me at any time. You are always welcome to visit our class!

Love and blessings,

Ms. Sydney Bush
